How to Travel Cheap (or FREE) Using Credit Card Points
I’ve always heard about people traveling for next to nothing using credit card points. And honestly? I’ve scrolled past more than a few Instagram travel influencers sipping champagne in business class thinking, How are they doing this?!
Now that my kids and I are traveling more, I finally decided to do some digging. I wanted to understand how credit card points really work—especially for families like mine. Because one of the reasons neurodivergent families don’t travel is the cost. And honestly, in this economy, I think a lot of families feel the same way. I spend a significant amount out-of-pocket for my son’s therapies, so I figured… if I’m already spending the money and paying for it monthly using my debit card, why not put it to work for us?
In my interview with Amanda (below) she shared a great tip — if you’ve got a big expense coming up, that’s the perfect time to open a new credit card and snag a big sign-up bonus. That’s exactly what I did. I opened the Chase Sapphire Preferred, hit the minimum spend quickly, and earned 100,000 points!
It turns out that using a credit card like a debit card—just for your everyday purchases like groceries and bills—can add up fast. And some cards give you even more points for those everyday expenses.
I connected with Amanda to help me (and hopefully you!) understand how to get started.
We had our chat at Disneyland and in our conversation, we cover:
* Which credit cards are great for beginners
* Whether it’s risky to have more than one card
* The best cards for Disney travel
* And the best ones for trips beyond Disney
